The Ingredients of Life

The surprise of ginger,
the hope of mint.
The warmth of saffron;
comfort, a fresh-baked bread.

Brown sugar laughter,
Cinnamon hugs.
Vanilla, a friend.
Fudge brownies made with love.

The wisdom of sage;
the tart taste of fear.
Chili pepper anger;
the lonely smell of clove.

Bittersweet coffee;
time measured by wine.
Sorrow, earth cardamom.
Grief, sprinkled with rosemary.

The things that flood my kitchen;
a beautiful symphony of taste and smell.
All blended up together;
signs of a life lived well.
