You, Me, Us

Image
Thoughts like a storm; Is this normal? Cascading fears; A river of tears. You tell me to be mindful, You say to be kind. You don’t see the battle, I fight with my mind. Let others help; I must help myself. Consider the others, Don’t just think of yourself. I spin like a top. Stop. Breathe. Self-love like an ocean; Endless devotion. Kindness flows outward, From a full heart And a whole soul. It’s meaningful to think, I take care of me To take care of you. Knowing you do that for me, too. An endless cycle, Love without end. A neighbor, a stranger, A lover, a friend. Myself, in the light; Not alone in the fight. A oneness comes From admitting our flaws. We come together, Lean on each other. Hold space, give grace.   My heart for you,  And yours for me.  A symphony of emotion. No fear; We know why we’re here. To support each other; The universe in our eyes. To be bold in our living. To be forgiving.   Being grateful for you, And valuing me. Never walking alone, Side by s...

Part 2: A Search for Stars

Image
Some nights were hard.  She almost lost heart,  When the stars went out,  And the road got dark.  She met some others,  On the road.  Searchers just like her,  Who shared the load.  And sometimes,  She had to walk alone.  To think the thoughts,  She had to own.  Along the way,  She founds some guides;  Things and experiences  That opened her eyes.  One day she noticed,  She had forgotten,  What she sought to find.  That thing she once  So desperately needed,  Had moved to the back of her mind.  She came upon a bridge,  That looked too old to cross.  It showed it stood the test of time,  But now it felt the loss.  She sat down and began to cry,  The fear came seeping in.  She became quite afraid,  Her journey was at an end.  But a brave soul walked before her,  Carefully step-by-step.  A few times they stumbled,  And st...

Conversations With My Body

Image
I know how it feels,   To have your body be your enemy.  You scream so loud,  But can’t tell,  If you’re screaming or silent.  Am I me?  Is this body mine?  Does it answer to me?  Answer me!  It’s been you and me,  From the beginning.  Don’t you want to work together?  What do you tell me,  In the still, silent moments?  Do you want to be heard?  Moments to slow;  Calm and quiet;  Space to breathe.  Please, tell me  What you need.  I nourish and keep you,  And now I beseech you;  Please don’t give up now.  You have my vow,  To take care.  To remember you’re there.  To recall,  That you can’t take the fall  For my running,  Never stopping;  Forever popping,  One thing to another.  I stumble through  And fumble to   Respect you, hold you;  Have I told you,  How wonderful you are?  You work ...

The Kitchen Table

The Ingredients of Life

Image
The surprise of ginger, the hope of mint. The warmth of saffron; comfort, a fresh-baked bread. Brown sugar laughter, Cinnamon hugs. Vanilla, a friend. Fudge brownies made with love. The wisdom of sage; the tart taste of fear. Chili pepper anger; the lonely smell of clove. Bittersweet coffee; time measured by wine. Sorrow, earth cardamom. Grief, sprinkled with rosemary. The things that flood my kitchen; a beautiful symphony of taste and smell. All blended up together; signs of a life lived well.

The Dichotomies

Image
A deafening silence; a familiar stranger; an unfamiliar friend. A hateful love, a welcoming rage. A sorrowful laughter; A cathartic grief.  A balanced chaos; Holding nothing, letting go of the empty; embracing the void. The universe; unity and entropy. Made of all and nothing. Clarity and confusion; gain and loss. The hopeful moment; a sweet surrender. Beauty in nothing; Wonder in everything. I am all things, and nothing at all.

Part 1: The Girl Who Forgot Her Name

Image
There once was a girl who forgot her name.  Alone in her room, she tried to recall  That word that would bring her home.  Who are we with no name? No identity;  Without something to be called?  A place of belonging; solid ground.  How we talk to ourselves in the quiet moments.   Our connection to others;   That thing we grow into.  Alone in the room, the girl stopped  Trying to remember her name.  She sought a new something to call herself;  Tried different words to fit.  Some names made her laugh,  Others made her cry.  She asked others to give her a name,  She asked them just to try.  They called her names that hurt her,  And ones she didn’t understand.  They called her names that didn’t fit,  Like someone else’s cloths.  She knew she didn’t know her name,  But it wasn’t one of those.    She asked about the names of others,  Hoping she might find,...

Life is a Walking

Life is a walking;   Serenity, a flowing river.  Love, a great expanse;   Spirit, a burning flame.  The universe, eternal motion.

Beauty Exists in the Broken Places

Image
We think in absolutes, we dream in shades of gray. We seek answers in the darkness; fear truth in the light of day. We barter in comparisons, and build identity in loss. We see ourselves in the forgotten; judgments of a different time.   We look past our gains and growth to that face in mirrors past. We carry the view of every crack, every mistake upon our skin. We tell ourselves we’re stuck carrying the weight of our regret. There’s gold in every piece; Beauty exists in the broken places.
